Thomas Tuchel offers Leroy Sane, Serge Gnabry, and Dayot Upamecano injury updates before Real Madrid match

Leroy Sane of FC Bayern München celebrates during the UEFA Champions League quarter-final second leg match between FC Bayern München and Arsenal FC at Allianz Arena on April 17, 2024 in Munich, Germany.

Bayern Munich will play host to Real Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League semifinals on Tuesday, April 30, as it will be an elite European rivalry renewed.

Before Bayern Munich face the LaLiga leaders, though, they will have another tough matchup in the Bundesliga this weekend against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Ahead of the game on Saturday, Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel offered an injury update about three star players, with Bayern fans especially concerned about the status of star right winger Leroy Sane before Tuesday’s Real Madrid matchup.

Per Tuchel, Sane is going to be a game-time call. The club is taking things day-to-day with the German international. He has began training individually, but, at this juncture, Tuchel cannot make a definitive call on whether or not the ex-Schalke man will be able to suit up.

As for Serge Gnabry, Tuchel is more optimistic. He believes the former Arsenal prospect will be able to play against Real Madrid and has no concerns regarding the left winger.

In fact, Tuchel boldly predicted that Gnabry, who has made four starts this season due to three separate serious injuries, will score against Madrid.

Finally, center back Dayot Upamecano, whose future is up in the air amidst rumors linking Bayern Munich to Jonathan Tah, will likely join Leroy Sane on the list of absences this weekend.

Upamecano twisted his ankle in training and is in pain. His status for the Eintracht Frankfurt match is in doubt, and the Bayern Munich manager stated the club has to wait and see.

Bayern will hope to recover Upamecano in time to face the trio of Jude Bellingham, Rodrygo Goes, and Vinicius Junior in the Champions League.
