Xavi called up Barcelona Atletic defender Pau Cubarsi for training on Thursday ahead of the weekend’s clash with Girona.
Barcelona have lost Inigo Martinez to injury, while Andreas Christensen also missed the session as he is about to become a father for the second time.
All of which was good news for Cubarsi who got the chance to try and impress the Barcelona boss and potentially earn some vital minutes.
Cubarsi has long been tipped as the next youngster to break into the first team squad and will be hoping for some senior game time this season.
He’s not expected to play against Girona but he could potentially make the squad for the crunch game in La Liga.
The Copa del Rey is a more realistic opportunity of first-team minutes, with Barcelona set to learn their first opponents next week when the draw for the next round is made.
