PSG superstar could be an option for Barcelona for 2024, but deal seen as ‘impossible’

Kylian Mbappe of PSG celebrates his first goal during the Ligue 1 Uber Eats match between Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and FC Metz (FCM) at Parc des Princes stadium on December 20, 2023 in Paris, France.

Barcelona are going through a period of turmoil right now. The club’s economic woes are now coupled with a series of underwhelming performances in La Liga, which has left them in a precarious position heading into 2024.

Barcelona’s problems have been further compounded by recent reports of UEFA potentially suspending the club from the Champions League for up to three years.

Barcelona’s problems have been further compounded by recent reports of UEFA potentially suspending the club from the Champions League for up to three years.

Nevertheless, Barça are unlikely to be fazed, as far as their operations in the transfer market is concerned. Although we may not see much option in January, the club could be up for yet another major overhaul in the summer.

Barcelona keeping tabs on Mbappe

With that in mind, a recent report from Mundo Deportivo has issued a rather surprising update on Barcelona’s transfer activity.

As per the report, the Catalans can have Mbappe as one of their potential targets for the summer of 2024 and would explore the opportunity to sign him on a free transfer.

Mbappe’s current deal at PSG expires at the end of the season, with Real Madrid in line to snap him up on a free transfer.

But Barcelona could see him as an option for 2024, considering that he can be signed for free in the summer, with his contract expiring.

Barcelona’s economic woes to be a hurdle

However, the idea of signing Mbappe on a free transfer next summer still remains a far-fetched dream, as far as the club are concerned.

As per the report, Barcelona’s poor economic condition makes it almost impossible to assess the cost of the Mbappe operation.

Even though the player’s contract at PSG is expiring at the end of the season, Mbappe is more than likely to demand a hefty signing bonus.

That alone could make the Frenchman an unrealistic target for the Blaugrana, who are unlikely to have any capital left to invest in the PSG superstar.
