Former Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has now shared with the Athletic whether he would take the England job in the future.
Pochettino enjoyed a brilliant spell in England, particularly with Spurs as he managed a wealth of talented English players.
The Argentine was responsible for helping both Harry Kane and Eric Dier develop into the players they are today. And both have been named as part of Gareth Southgate’s squad for Qatar.
The former PSG boss also did a brilliant job with Southampton before joining Tottenham in 2014, developing English players such as Nathaniel Clyne, Adam Lallana and Luke Shaw.
Pochettino has strong links with England after his time in the country and has now answered whether he would ever consider taking over the national side.
Speaking to the Athletic, the Argentine didn’t rule out the possibility of him becoming England boss in the future.
“Of course, my relationship with England has always been very good,” Pochettino said.
“We have a very good relationship with the academies, trying to develop young players for the national team.
“I feel so comfortable here. You never know what happens. I am open to everything.”
Pochettino led Spurs to their first-ever Champions League final back in 2019 but is now out of work after leaving PSG over the summer.
Having worked with the likes of Kane, Dier and Shaw already, he would reunite with the players if he managed England in the future.
The Argentine seems like he would be a good fit for the job, in the event that Southgate leaves his role.
The current England boss has come under scrutiny due to their form in the build-up to the World Cup. But Southgate has delivered in each of his last two tournaments, leading the Three Lions to a semi-final and a final.
He will be hoping to go one better over the course of the next month and deliver England’s first major trophy in over 50 years.
But should the Three Lions ever decide to change their manager, Pochettino seems like an option they would simply have to consider.
His track-record of working with English players has been brilliant and he has already spent a large part of his career working in the country.
