Real Madrid gained a scrappy win over Getafe to go top of La Liga

Eder Militao of Real Madrid celebrates 0-1 with Luka Modric of Real Madrid during the La Liga Santander match between Getafe v Real Madrid at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez on October 8, 2022 in Getafe Spain.

Real Madrid won in La Liga on Saturday with a 1-0 win over Getafe after Eder Militao netted in the early stages. Barcelona are three points behind Real Madrid in La Liga, ahead Celta Vigo in  match at Camp Nou on Sunday.

Atletico Madrid defeated Girona 2-1 while new Sevilla manager Jorge Sampaoli drew 1-1 against Athletic Bilbao.

Jorge Sampaoli’s new Sevilla squad earned a creditable 1-1 draw against third-placed Athletic Bilbao. As a result, Real Madrid secured their first clean sheet of the season in La Liga.

“It’s clear that we want to score more than one, two, or three goals, but keeping the clean sheet here won us the match,” said defender Dani Carvajal, who scored the solitary goal.

“Going for the minimum and keeping a clean sheet makes it more valuable to not concede.”

Karim Benzema missed Real Madrid's workout on Friday and was not on the team sheet for the match. The French forward is expected to be fully fit by next week’s Clasico.

Militao headed home from Luka Modric’s perfect corner in the fourth minute. It was the ideal way for the Brazilian defender to celebrate his 100th appearance for the club.
