Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed winger Marco Asensio is looking to leave the club this summer.
Asensio was Real’s third-top scorer last season but has plummeted down the pecking order under Ancelotti this year, with the boss making it clear there will be limited minutes for the 26-year-old if he chooses to stay.
Talk of a departure had been minimal up to this point but Ancelotti has now confirmed Asensio is looking elsewhere.
“I think he is looking at something to see if he can leave,” the boss told Movistar.
“If he does not leave, he will continue to be a Madrid player.”
Asensio has lost his place in the Real lineup to midfielder Federico Valverde, who is in the process of reinventing himself as a right winger, while Ancelotti has also preferred Vinicius Junior and Eden Hazard on the wings.
He was left on the bench for the Super Cup final against Frankfurt and has seen just seven minutes of La Liga action over his side’s opening two games – despite the fact Rodrygo has been out injured.
With Rodrygo expected to return soon, Asensio’s hopes of regular minutes at Real appear slim and it seems as though he has accepted the opportunity to look elsewhere.
The 26-year-old has just one year remaining on his contract and could be available for a low price as a result.
