Christian Eriksen to Leicester City - Transfer hint, Brentford talks, Brendan Rodgers’ stance

The summer is almost upon us as rumours continue to swirl ahead of the transfer window opening.

It could be a busy window for Leicester City with manager Brendan Rodgers being open about the need for a ‘refresh’ of his squad. He has said five or six new faces could arrive at the club before the start of next season, while other players could leave.

Rodgers is hoping to bring in at least two new midfielders to ease the burden on players such as Kiernan Dewsbury Hall. “For sure, that’s an area I would say we need at least two,” he said this month .

One midfielder to be linked with a summer move to the King Power Stadium is Brentford’s Christian Eriksen. The Denmark international is available on a free transfer after signing a six-month deal with the Bees back in January.

His return to football has been one of the feel-good stories of the year, and his performances for Brentford have caught the eye. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has said City are ‘really interested’ in making a move for Eriksen when the transfer window opens.

It’s not the first time City have been linked with the midfielder, with Rodgers showing an interest when he was with Inter Milan back in January 2020.

With that in mind, here is all we know about City’s interest in the former Tottenham man ahead of the final round of Premier League games.

Transfer hint

Eriksen has said he "has an idea" of where his future could lie ahead of the summer transfer window, with City one of the clubs said to be interested.

Talking on BBC’s Football Focus, Eriksen himself has given the latest update on his future. “You can think about it, I can think about it, but I don’t know what the future holds,” he said.

“Like I said before, it will be a decision from a sports perspective, but also a family perspective, going into the decision of where we’re going to go and what’s going to happen. I haven’t made up my mind 100 percent of where I’m going.

“I have an idea, but whether that’s going to happen, or what going to happen, that I don’t know. But Brentford is definitely in the category of one of the clubs, for sure.”

Brentford talks

Reports from transfer expert Fabrizio Romano say that Eriksen is keen to talk to current club Brentford before making his mind up over his future.

Speaking on the Que Golazo podcast, the journalist gave the latest on the midfielder: “His priority is to discuss with Brentford, to understand their plans and to respect them. And then he will discuss with other clubs. He has many possibilities on the market.”

Rodgers’ stance

Speaking on the Que Golazo Podcast, Romano also gave an update on City’s interest in the player and the thoughts on manager Brendan Rodgers: “Tottenham are interested in signing him; Leicester, Brendan Rodgers is in love with Christian Eriksen, but at the moment, nothing has been decided.”

Thomas Frank update

Brentford manager Thomas Frank believes his side have a ‘very good chance’ of keeping Eriksen beyond the summer, despite interest from elsewhere.

It’s perhaps no surprise that Brentford are also keen to extend Eriksen’s deal, with Frank giving the latest update following his side’s 3-0 loss against Manchester United earlier this month.

"I am always positive," he said about keeping Eriksen beyond his current deal. "I always believe we have a very good chance. I know he is happy here, he is enjoying his football. It is a decision that will be taken at the end of the season."
