Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski insists he is not considering retiring and reveals the truth about his collapsed transfer to Genoa.
The Poland striker won the Fan’s Player of the Year award, named after Diego Maradona, at the Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai on Monday.
The 33-year-old spoke to Sky Sport Italia after the ceremony.
He refused to rule out a move to Serie A in the future and revealed the truth on why he didn’t join Genoa in 2010.
The striker, who was playing for Lech Poznan at that time, even underwent medical examinations with the Grifone.
“I received an offer from Genoa in the past and I even went to the stadium to watch a derby against Sampdoria,” Lewandowski said.
“However, I already knew I would have joined Borussia Dortmund because they were playing European competitions.
“I like Italy, I spend a lot of time there during the summer,” the striker continued.
“I like the food and people, Italians are excellent people, especially with kids, let’s see what will happen in the future.”
Lewandowski’s contract with Bayern Munich expires in June 2023. He is the most prolific striker of 2021 with 43 goals in 34 appearances.
During the same interview, the player ruled out a possible retirement in the coming years.
