Barcelona will have to cope without Ansu Fati on Wednesday at Rayo Vallecano as the striker has been ruled out of the clash with a knee injury.

The Catalans confirmed the news on the morning of the game which means he won’t travel with the squad for the match in Vallecas.

Fati joins Pedri, Frenkie de Jong, Ronald Araujo, Ousmane Dembele, and Martin Braithwaite on the injured list.

Ansu Fati of FC Barcelona celebrates after scoring their team's first goal during the LaLiga Santander match between FC Barcelona and Valencia CF at Camp Nou on October 17, 2021 in Barcelona, Spain.

Fati picked up the problem in El Clasico, although it’s worth remembering it’s not the same knee that kept him out for 10 months.

Ronald Koeman admitted in his pre-match press conference that Fati might not make the trip despite naming him in his initial squad.

“Ansu had some pain but not related to the injury he had. He’s still a doubt for Rayo,” he said. “He’s in the squad but we will make a decision on Wednesday regarding if he travels with us or not.”

There’s no word yet of how long Fati might be out for but let’s hope it’s nothing too serious.
