Watford loan ruled out for Newcastle United midfielder

Matty Longstaff of Newcastle United during the Premier League match between Arsenal and Newcastle United at Emirates Stadium on January 18, 2021 in London, England.

Newcastle United midfielder Matty Longstaff will not join Watford on loan today, according to the Shields Gazette.

The 20-year-old has found playing time hard to come by at St. James’ Park this season, having made just five Premier League appearances so far.

Longstaff’s situation at Newcastle has seen him being linked with a move away from the club during the ongoing transfer window, with Watford credited with an interest in him.

The Hornets are claimed to be keen on acquiring the services of the midfielder and even made an approach over the weekend.

However, it is said that Newcastle turned down the Championship club’s initial approach.

There have been suggestions that Longstaff could still join Watford on the final day of the transfer window, but contrary to claims, the move is now off the cards.

The Hornets also enquired about Matty’s elder brother Sean Longstaff but the midfielder is not willing to leave Newcastle.

Meanwhile, the Magpies are looking to bring in a new midfielder before the transfer window slams shut and have been linked with the likes of Leicester City star Hamza Choudhury.
