Romelu Lukaku extended his goal scoring record at Europa League with two more goals in the semi-final match against Shakhtar Donetsk on Monday, roaring to a victory of 5-0, and setting up a final showdown with Sevilla on Friday in Cologne.
This is the first time Inter has qualified for a European final since winning the 2010 Champions League under Jose Mourinho.
Lukaku has so far bagged 33 goals in his first season with Inter, one goal away from Ronaldo's record in his first season at the club when the Brazilian led the Nerazzurri to the 1997/98 UEFA Cup title.
Lautaro Martinez also scored twice in the match. He and Lukaku are the first Inter pair to score 20 or more goals in a single season since Adriano and Obafemi Martins in the 2004-05 campaign.
Throughout the game, Shakhtar had one golden chance to level when Mykola Matviyenko's cross picked out Junior Moraes, but the Brazilian-born Ukrainian international's header was too close to Samir Handanovic.
Two minutes later, Inter landed the killer blow when D'Ambrosio met Marcelo Brozovic's corner with a powerful header.
"When Inter scored their second goal, we simply collapsed," said Castro. "After 2-0 we made so many terrible mistakes."
"It was an incredible night, something we have been dreaming of," said Martinez, who has been strongly linked with a move to be Luis Suarez's successor at Barcelona.
"We proved that Inter are ready for great things, we are ready for the final."
