Luis Suarez set to return from knee surgery as soon as Football resumes

Luis Suarez hopes to be back playing football as soon as professional games are allowed to start up again.

The Barcelona forward has been out of action due to a knee injury, and was expected to be away for four months after he had surgery in January.

“The doctor told me that my recovery was going really well and that gave me hope to play again as soon as I could,” he told Uruguayan newspaper El Observador (via the Evening Standard).

“The difference now is that when the team returns, I will be able to be with them.”

Professional football has been suspended due to the deadly coronavirus outbreak, in an attempt to stop the spread.

Spain is one of the worst hit countries in the world with over 1,300 deaths. The entire Real Madrid first team and staff are currently in self-isolation after one of the club's basketball players tested positive for the virus.

“It's not going to change much if the league starts now or three weeks later,” said Suarez.

“You have to be sure and confirm that you can go out on the streets without fear of contracting a virus that has already killed a lot of people. That's got to be thought.”

Before his injury, Suarez had played 23 games in all competitions for Barcelona this season, scoring 14 goals and providing 11 assists.

Boss Quique Setien is looking to provide some competition for Suarez on his return. Barcelona have been linked with Neymar, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and Lautaro Martinez in recent weeks.
