Senior players may end up leaving Bayern Munich during the summer transfer window. The Bavarian club is planning a squad overhaul after the trophyless campaign. Joshua Kimmich has been touted as one of the senior departures from Die Roten this summer.

The German midfielder has been heavily linked with FC Barcelona in the last few days after Hansi Flick was appointed the new head coach of the Spanish club. Flick enjoyed success with Kimmich during his coaching tenure at Bayern. It is a complex transfer to complete since Barcelona do not have the funds to make a significant bid for Kimmich.

Paris Saint-Germain reportedly tried to sign Kimmich in January. The French club may try again in the summer if Kimmich is on the transfer market. Manchester City have been credited with concrete interest in the 29-year-old midfielder.

Bayern will sit down with Kimmich after the Euros to find a solution regarding his future. He currently has just over 12 months left on his contract. While talking to Fussballnews, former Bayern midfielder Lothar Matthaus urged Kimmich to stay in Munich even if he will play as a right-back for next season.

"No, he should stay here. Kimmich has to come to terms with it if the coach wants to play him at right-back, because he can be world-class there too. Sometimes it's bad luck for a player to be world-class in two positions. Kimmich is a team player. He has character and that's why he will do his best in the national team and also at FC Bayern if his coach wants him to play on the right side. "

Kimmich prefers playing in the center of the park. However, injuries to both right-backs during the final phase of the season forced Thomas Tuchel to use Kimmich in the right-back position. He has excelled in this position at Bayern under Carlo Ancelotti and Hansi Flick. Kimmich will continue to play in this position for Germany during the Euros.

The German international would like to know where he features in Vincent Kompany’s plans before deciding his future. Meanwhile, Bayern have him on the list of players that could be sold in the summer if adequate offers arrive.

Kimmich can certainly have a future at Bayern if he decides to continue in the right-back position. Bayern want to part ways with Noussair Mazraoui in the summer, which opens a vacancy in this role. The number six position may no longer be his go-to position since Bayern are looking to strengthen this position in the summer.

Bayern are moving ahead with the plans of signing Joao Palhinha from Fulham for the defensive midfield position. The arrival of the Portuguese midfielder will have a significant impact on Kimmich’s plans to play regularly in the midfield. Bayern would like to resolve Kimmich’s future one way or the other once after the Euros to find a replacement for him.
