Andre Onana names two key players ahead of Manchester United FA Cup final vs Man City

Andre Onana of Manchester United warms up ahead of the Premier League match between Brighton & Hove Albion and Manchester United at American Express Community Stadium on May 19, 2024 in Brighton, England.

Andre Onana is calling on everyone associated with Man United to stand together ahead of this weekend's FA Cup final at Wembley.

Goalkeeper Andre Onana insists the returns of Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane will give Manchester United a significant boost ahead of Saturday's FA Cup final against Manchester City at Wembley.

Martinez started for the first time since February 4 as United beat Brighton & Hove Albion 2-0 on the final day of the Premier League season. Diogo Dalot and Rasmus Hojlund both scored in the second half to seal a second successive win for the Reds.

Varane, like Hojlund, was introduced from the bench after half-time, replacing Sofyan Amrabat with 69 minutes played. It marked his first appearance since the dramatic 4-3 defeat to Chelsea on April 4.

Both players, particularly Martinez, have been sorely missed at times this season, meaning United have been robbed of the chance to call upon their strongest centre-back partnership on a regular basis. It was announced last week that Varane will leave United this summer, meaning Saturday's trip to Wembley, if selected, will mark his final appearance for the club.

Regardless of the starting line-up manager Erik ten Hag settles on, Onana is adamant that having the likes of Martinez and Varane back available for selection boosts their chances of ending the season with silverware.

"One hundred per cent," Onana told MUTV when asked if the returns of the aforementioned duo were positive signs. "One hundred per cent. They are very important players for us and we are happy when we see them on the pitch.

"Hopefully we are all going to be together at Wembley on Saturday because we need everyone. We need all our players and we need our fans because it is going to be a very difficult game. They have to be there like they have always been in difficult moments.

"Saturday, we must be there together because only together are we going to win this trophy."
