Manchester United have been handed another injury boost ahead of their FA Cup quarter-final clash with Liverpool at Old Trafford today.
United boss Erik ten Hag confirmed at his press conference on Friday that Rasmus Hojlund, Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are available for the showdown with Jurgen Klopp's quadruple chasers.
The return of top goalscorer Hojlund is a particular fillip for under-pressure Ten Hag. The young striker had scored eight goals in as many games before missing the next four with a muscle injury.
Having Maguire and Wan-Bissaka will aid Ten Hag, too. The Dutchman is still without four first-choice defenders.
But his midfield options are looking a lot better. That's after The Athletic reported that Mason Mount is set to make the United squad for the last-eight tie with Liverpool.
Mount has been sidelined for four months with a calf problem that derailed his hopes of kick-starting a Red Devils career that started slowly following his £60m move to Chelsea. The England international was linked with Liverpool before they turned their attention to the likes of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.
But while Mount, Hojlund, Maguire and Wan-Bissaka will be available for United, they are still missing seven players.
Lisandro Martinez and fellow defenders Luke Shaw, Jonny Evans and Tyrell Malacia remain sidelined along with youngster Omari Forson and striker Anthony Martial. Back-up goalkeeper Altay Bayindi is also out.
But while United's injury problems are not insignificant, they pale in comparison to Liverpool's. While the picture is beginning to look brighter at the AXA Training Centre, Klopp looks set to be without 10 players this afternoon with Ibrahima Konate seemingly unlikely to pass a late fitness test.
Reds boss Klopp said on Friday: "Ibou didn't train today. We have to see if he can train tomorrow but it will be a tight, tight race which we probably lose, but we don't know."
