PSG still offering Real Madrid target Kylian Mbappe a new contract, but player unsure

Kylian Mbappe of Paris Saint-Germain looks dejected during the UEFA Champions League match between Newcastle United FC and Paris Saint-Germain at St. James Park on October 04, 2023 in Newcastle upon Tyne, England.

Kylian Mbappe has been on the cusp of joining Real Madrid on multiple occasions. Yet, the process continually hits roadblocks when the business end of the deal arrives into the picture.

The recently concluded summer was perhaps the player’s best chance of signing for his dream club. With one year left on his contract with PSG, the Parisiens were under pressure to sell him in order to recoup some funds.

Yet, the plan of action did not pan out how Los Blancos would have wanted. The French phenom eventually opted to stay in Paris with the hope of departing on a free transfer next summer, but history is a testament that nothing goes to plan with Mbappe.

Is the window still open?

According to reports from Jose Felix Diaz, PSG are offering Mbappe a new contract extension. His idea, however, is to leave the club next summer for a renewal does not convince him.

The story on the other side is unclear. Los Blancos are understandably frustrated with the player’s constant rejections, and the Spanish journalist adds that they no longer regard Mbappe’s regret of not joining the club.

Real Madrid maintain that their current players including Vinicius Jr and Jude Bellingham are the current references. They will not depend, or plan around, Kylian Mbappe or Erling Haaland.

It thus remains to be seen if, for starters, the youngster renews his deal in France. The next question, however, will be regarding Real Madrid’s stance on his signing after Bellingham and Vinicius’ recent successes.

Mbappe is far from living the dream

When the PSG star signed a renewal with the club back in May 2022, he did not expect matters to turn so awry at the French capital.

A little over a year later, it is safe to say that he is far from living the dream.

With both Lionel Messi and Neymar Jr no longer at the club, Mbappe is indeed the sole player in the limelight. However, he has struggled for form with the two magical dribblers not by his side.

Eight games into the season, PSG sit third in Ligue 1 with just 15 of a possible 24 points. Moreover, their 4-1 humbling to Newcastle throws their UCL campaign into danger as well.

Real Madrid remain interested in his services but will face competition from the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool, apart from PSG’s attempts to renew his contract.
