Newcastle United have earned a significant financial boost as a result of their flying start in the Champions League group stages. The Magpies are yet to lose despite being placed in arguably the hardest group of them all, with a goalless draw at AC Milan being followed up by a famous 4-1 win over Paris Saint-Germain.
Newcastle secured a payout of around £13million just for achieving Champions League qualification last season, with the Magpies returning to the Premier League's top four for the first time in over two decades. They have since managed to secure plenty of extra income thanks to their impressive unbeaten start, which sees them sitting pretty at the top of Group F.
Every group stage win earns around £2.4m in prize money, with a draw being rewarded with approximately £803,000. The money is then pooled and redistributed to clubs across all groups based on the number of wins they manage to record.
It means that Newcastle have already guaranteed around £15m worth of income in total after qualifying for the Champions League and securing a win and a draw in their opening two matches. The Magpies could earn another £9.6m if they manage to win their remaining four group stage fixtures, although that seems unlikely given the sheer quality of the other teams up against them.
They will be in line to receive an extra payment of £8.3m if they reach the knockout stages, which is the figure handed to clubs that suffer a defeat in the round of 16. Another £9.1m will be up for grabs in the quarter-finals, while £10.8m will go to the losing semi-finalists.
If Newcastle manage to pull off the unthinkable and win the Champions League this season, they will be rewarded with a bonus payment of £17.2m. Meanwhile, the losing finalist will receive £13.4m as a consolation prize for falling short of European glory at the very last hurdle.
