Man Utd striker Greenwood makes La Liga switch with loan to Getafe

Manchester United footballer, Mason Greenwood leaves Manchester's Minshull Street Crown Court on the first day of his trial on November 21, 2022 in Manchester, England.

Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood has signed for La Liga club Getafe on a season-long loan.

Last week, United had confirmed that they had agreed with the forward that they would work to find a move away for the player.

The 21-year-old was not part of United’s plans any longer and with little time left in the transfer window once a decision was made over the player’s future, a loan move looked likeliest.

He had been linked with a switch to Serie A side Lazio, but a move did not come to fruition, and an offer from the Saudi Pro League was not made concrete despite rumours of interest.

Reports suggested there was interest from clubs in German and Turkey as well and Spain and Italy.

Greenwood made his debut for Manchester United in the 2018/19 season, and has played 129 games for United, scoring 35 goals, and has a single England international cap, earned in 2020.

Getafe finished 15th in La Liga last season, and after three games in the current season sit 11th with a single draw and one victory.
