Bonucci puts on brave face amidst Juventus exclusion

Leonardo Bonucci called his return to Continassa ‘a beautiful day’ despite the various reports that he’s been cut from the Juventus squad.

It’s been widely reported in recent days that the Bianconeri have informed the veteran defender that he is no longer in their plans for the coming campaign, allegedly deciding not to bring him on their pre-season training tour to the United States.

Bonucci only has a year left on his contract with Juventus and the club are working to cut their wage bill this summer, making the sale of the 36-year-old an obvious choice considering that he’s one of the highest earners in the squad.

Writing on his Instagram page today, Bonucci put on a smile despite the reports of his exclusion, sharing some photos with supporters.

“In the end, of men, heart and intentions matter. That’s why today, like every year, is a beautiful day for me.”

Bonucci has been linked with a handful of clubs in recent weeks, including Maurizio Sarri’s Lazio. He is keen to retain his place in the Italy squad for Euro 2024, so is not interested in a move to the MLS or Saudi Arabia.
