L’Équipe report today that despite Emmanuel Macron’s apparent intention to bring along France’s injury absentees for Sunday’s World Cup final, Juventus are reticent on letting Paul Pogba make the journey to Qatar.
With the 2018 winner having first undergone a knee operation in September and then sustained a thigh injury, he has instead been keeping contact with his international teammates in Doha – notably Antoine Griezmann and Kingsley Coman – and has posted several messages of support on social media.
Pogba has told those within the squad that he would like to attend the final, but despite his efforts to convince them otherwise, the Bianconeri are not enthusiastic about letting him go while he remains in recovery mode.
Similarly, Bayern Munich have vetoed Lucas Hernandez’s potential six-hour flight to Qatar, given he has only recently undergone a knee operation as well after suffering an injury in the opening ten minutes of France’s first game of the tournament, against Australia.
The left-back, who has been calling his brother three to four times a day, will nevertheless be allowed to take part in the celebrations in Paris should they win, as will be the case for Presnel Kimpembe. N’Golo Kanté and Christopher Nkunku have also been keeping in touch with members of the squad.
