Giovanni Di Lorenzo’s agent confirms the captain is eager to commit his future to Napoli with a lifetime contract. ‘We hope this season can bring the Scudetto too.’

The 29-year-old only joined Napoli in 2019 from Empoli, but was named captain after the departure of Lorenzo Insigne over the summer.

His current contract runs to June 2026 and was signed in July 2021, yet he is already itching for a new deal.

“We have been talking since the summer about a new contract, because the player wants to tie himself to Napoli, so we’ll continue discussions with the club,” agent Mario Giuffredi told Radio Kiss Kiss.

“We hope this season can bring the Scudetto too, as that really would be the completion of a dream and Giovanni’s extraordinary story.

“He came to the top level of football late in life and is the perfect example of meritocracy, earning it all on the field.”

Di Lorenzo spent most of his career in the lower leagues, making his Serie A debut at the age of 25 for Empoli in 2018.

Just over a year later, he received his first cap for Italy at senior level, going on to be part of the squad that won EURO 2020.

So far this season, the right-back has provided a goal and two assists in 21 appearances for Napoli between Serie A and the Champions League.

The Partenopei are top of the domestic table and will face Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League Round of 16.
