England World Cup hopeful Tammy Abraham has scored his first Serie A goal since September, netting for Roma in a 1-1 draw at Sassuolo.
Abraham – who has won 11 caps for the national side – rose highest to head in a cross from Gianluca Mancini in the 80th minute but Andrea Pinamonti equalised for Sassuolo with a swift counterattack five minutes later.
Abraham, who scored 27 goals across all competitions last season in a breakout performance upon arriving at Roma after falling out of favour at Chelsea, has struggled to find the target this term.
He scored one Serie A goal in August, one in September. His only other goal for Roma this season was in the Europa League on October 27.
“Beyond the goal, he won duels, battled hard and played solidly,” Roma coach Jose Mourinho said.
Roma – for whom highly rated Australian-Italian teen Cristian Volpato played 62 minutes – slipped to sixth.
In Milan, Federico Dimarco celebrated his 25th birthday a day early with two goals as Inter bounced back in style from their weekend loss at Juventus.
Dimarco, who grew up supporting Inter and progressed through the ranks at the club, was given a standing ovation by the San Siro crowd when he was substituted off.
Bologna started the match well and Charalampos Lykogiannis gave them a deserved lead when Riccardo Orsolini’s effort deflected off him and into the back of the net.
But it was all downhill from there for the visitors. Edin Dzeko equalised on 26 minutes before Dimarco’s double and further goals from Lautaro Martinez, Hakan Calhanoglu and Robin Gosens completed a 6-1 rout.
Atalanta were beaten 2-1 at Serie B champions Lecce, their second consecutive defeat after a strong start to the season.
Lecce, who had not won at home all season, were facing opponents unbeaten away.
But Federico Baschirotto and Federico Di Francesco scored two minutes apart for Lecce midway through the opening period before Duvan Zapata pulled one back for Atalanta with his first goal of the season following an injury layoff.
Elsewhere, Fiorentina edged Salernitana 2-1 and Torino beat Sampdoria 2-0.
