Red Bull Salzburg sporting director Christoph Freund has refused to rule out making a potential switch to Chelsea in the near future.
The 45-year-old Austrian has been linked with the sporting director role at the west London club to spearhead a new era under the ownership of Todd Boehly.
Freund watched Chelsea’s 1-1 draw against Salzburg as the Austrian Champions fought back to earn a point at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday evening.
After the match, Freund was quizzed about the prospect of moving to the Premier League side and he didn’t appear to reject the idea of a potential switch.
He said to Sky Sports Austria: “Chelsea is a huge club in transition. I can’t say exactly what will happen in the next few weeks and months.
“You should never rule anything out in football and Chelsea are such a huge club. But I’m sports director in Salzburg and I really enjoy it.”
Freund also went on to claim that he had been in contact with Chelsea earlier in the summer over the signing of 19-year-old striker Benjamin Sesko.
The Slovenia international was linked to a host of top clubs in Europe during the transfer window before it was confirmed he would move to RB Leipzig next summer.
Speaking on the matter, Freund added: “I’ve had exchanges with Chelsea from time to time. We spoke more often a month or two ago because they were interested in Sesko.
“The new owners are interested in how we do it with young players, how we integrate them into the first team. But you do that again and again with other clubs – that’s it.”
Chelsea’s next match will be against Crystal Palace on October 1 after their match against Liverpool was postponed this weekend.
