West Ham hopeful deal can be done for target

West Ham United and Chelsea have resumed talks over the transfer of left-back Emerson Palmieri this summer, according to Sky Sports News, with the Hammers now confident of a deal.

Emerson is currently under contract with the Blues until the summer of 2024 and spent the 2021/22 season on loan at Ligue 1 side Lyon.

The Hammers had one bid worth £13m rejected for the out-of-favour Italy international earlier in the transfer window, with Chelsea demanding more.

Now, with less than two weeks to go in the transfer window, West Ham and Chelsea have resumed talks with a view to getting a deal for Emerson over the line.

The Blues have Ben Chilwell back from injury and also made Marc Cucurella the most expensive left-back in history this summer, effectively pushing Emerson towards the exit door.

David Moyes’ side are on the hunt for another left-back this summer to compete with Aaron Cresswell, with Benjamin Johnson being used at centre-back so far this season following an injury crisis at London Stadium.

Discussions with Emerson’s representatives are ongoing, the transfer fee is close to being finalised between the Hammers and the Blues and it is hoped that a compromise can be reached that suits everyone involved.

Emerson made 36 appearances in all competitions for Les Gones last season, scoring once, assisting twice, earning four cautions and one red card along the way.
