Southampton winger Nathan Tella is undergoing a medical ahead of a loan to Vincent Kompany’s Burnley, according to the Burnley Express.
Burnley have added former Belgium Under-21 international Manuel Benson to their squad this summer but require a right-footed winger to play in Kompany’s system, a search that led them to Tella.
The 23-year-old signed a contract extension this January to keep him at St. Mary’s Stadium until the summer of 2025.
In a bid to further his development, Southampton have agreed to loan out Tella to the Clarets for the season and the winger is undergoing a medical ahead of the move.
Tella made 18 appearances for the Saints’ first team during the 2021/22 season, scoring once and assisting three times.
Burnley will look to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking under Kompany’s stewardship.
The Clarets currently sit in third place in the Championship table after a 1-0 win away to Huddersfield Town followed by a 1-1 draw at home to Luton Town and will take on Watford next.
Southampton are presently at the foot of the Premier League table after a 4-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur and will play host to Leeds United on Saturday.
