An extra time goal by Luuk de Jong put PSV Eindhoven into the final qualifying round for this year’s Champions League competition, where they will meet Glasgow Rangers.

PSV won the second leg against AS Monaco 3-2, putting them within two games of qualifying for Europe’s premier competition alongside Ajax of Amsterdam.

The two sides drew 1-1 in Monaco last week. ‘This is what you play for,’ De Jong said after the match, during which Monaco had led for much of the time. ‘If you believe in something, it can happen. It was a heavy game.

Monaco was a good team, but we fought this with the entire squad.’ This season, De Jong has rejoined PSV from Sevilla on a three-year contract. It is four years since PSV took part in the Champions League.
