Manchester United confident of securing Antony deal

Antony of Ajax celebrates 2-1 during the Dutch Eredivisie match between Ajax v FC Groningen at the Johan Cruijff Arena on August 14, 2022 in Amsterdam Netherlands.

Manchester United are confident of reaching an agreement to sign Ajax forward Antony before the summer transfer window shuts on September 1.

Antony, 22, is now United’s main focus as Erik ten Hag wants the Brazilian to strengthen his attacking options.

United are believed to have somewhat cooled their pursuit of PSV Eindhoven forward Cody Gakpo as they are prioritising a deal for Antony.

Antony’s representatives are in London looking to complete a move to Old Trafford where the attacker would join ex-boss Ten Hag and former Ajax team-mate Lisandro Martinez.

The two clubs have discussed a fee higher than the €80million initially offered, some sources placing the figure at €94m, but Ajax have reportedly set an asking price of €100m for the player.

Antony was left out of Ajax’s 1-0 win over Sparta Rotterdam on Sunday due to speculation over his move.

The Athletic reported last week that United had revived their interest in Antony with just two weeks remaining of the summer transfer window.

United submitted an offer of €80million (£67.6million) last Wednesday which was rebuffed by Ten Hag’s former employers.
