Borussia Dortmund are set to complete the signing of defensive midfielder Salih Özcan from FC Köln for a transfer fee in the region of ten million euros.

Borussia Dortmund have made quite a splash in the transfer window already, and they are now set to complete the signing of FC Köln defensive midfielder Salih Özcan. According to BILD, the 24 year old is undergoing his medical check in Dortmund today, and his signature will cost the Black and Yellows around ten million euros.

Borussia Dortmund have been looking for a new defensive midfielder to replace Axel Witsel, who will be leaving the club on a free transfer at the end of next season. They have been linked with a number of midfielders in recent weeks. And now it looks like they have got their man in Salih Özcan.

The FC Köln midfielder was also wanted by RB Leipzig, Olympique Lyonnais and a number of other clubs. And the Billy Goats were also hoping to keep him at the club. But with his contract with FC Köln expiring at the end of next season, Sebastian Kehl and co. have been able to sign him for a relatively cheap fee.

Özcan is coming off an impressive season with FC Köln and helped them qualify for next season’s UEFA Europa Conference League. Now he will take the next step in his career with Borussia Dortmund.

Marco Rose spoke recently about wanting a defensive midfielder who is robust in duels and brings a strong mentality to the team. And the hope will be that Özcan can offer those attributes to the team starting from next season.
