Conte speaks out on Tottenham future amid PSG links

Antonio Conte, head coach of Tottenham Hotspur during the Tottenham Hotspur training session at Tottenham Hotspur Training Centre on April 27, 2022 in Enfield, England.

Antonio Conte concedes that he is ‘happy’ other clubs appreciate his work but insists media must show respect and avoid spreading fake news.

The Italian tactician has been linked with a move to PSG in the summer and according to in Italy, he can leave Spurs at the end of the season by activating a clause in his contract.

Reports in France have suggested that Conte demanded a €30m-a-year salary in Paris and, among other things, the chance to work with Gianluca Petrachi.

Obviously, I think it’s good that other clubs appreciate my work, but this is one thing. The truth is I don’t like when people try to invent news, only to speak, only to create problems, Conte said at a press conference today, as quoted by Football London.

This is not right, this is not fair for the clubs involved or for my players. Also because I feel we’re really focused on these fives games and getting a result.

This type of situation makes me smile, but I think that also the people that want to tell something about this have to show respect for all of the people that are involved in the situation and not invent fake news and tell a lot of lies.

Now don’t listen to fake news and people for sure want to create problems for the environment. We have five games and then at the end of the season in a private way I will speak with my club and I will see the best solution.

Has he talked to his players about the transfer rumours?

In this situation who works in football, players or managers, know very well at this point in the season a lot of fake news starts to go out, he said.

We are working very hard, my players know very well that we are really focused, we are speaking a lot about this opportunity. We have to live this situation with passion, enthusiasm and joy. We deserve to fight for a place in the Champions League. To stay there, we need to enjoy this situation. Our fans have to stay close to us in every moment, in every negative moment.

PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino said yesterday that he will stay at the club in 2022-23. “That [the fact me and Mbappe are staying] is how I feel today. That is what I can say to you today. I can’t say anything else. That is how I feel right now,” he said.

The former Tottenham boss won the France title this season but was eliminated from the Champions League Round of 16 at the hands of Real Madrid.
