Bruno Lage admits Ruben Neves is likely to miss Wolves’ crunch clash with Brighton on Saturday - despite the midfielder returning to training this week.
Neves hasn’t played since March 18, when he suffered a knee injury in the 3-2 defeat to Leeds United at Molineux. He returned to light training last week and rejoined the team at Compton Park a few days ago.
The Portugal international wasn’t able to train on Thursday though, and Lage thinks the Brighton game will come too soon. Defender Max Kilman and influential attacker Daniel Podence also remain on the sidelines.
No changes, we still have Max, Ruben and Daniel out, said Lage. We don’t count these guys for the game. We must help them to recover, but it will be hard to have these guys in the game.
Pressed further on Neves’ progress, Lage added: “He trained yesterday, but today he didn’t train. I think it will be hard after six weeks to be ready to play 90 minutes as a midfielder. Let’s see what happens, but at this moment it’s hard for Ruben to return to the team.
The main point is that we will try to find the best strategy for the game and pick the best players. I don’t have any problems playing Leander or Luke in that position, but if I can I will pick Ruben - that has been clear since the first day.
