Bayern Munich fittingly defeated their closest rivals Borussia Dortmund to seal a historic Bundesliga crown.
Munich sealed their 10th Bundesliga title in succession as they strolled to a 3-1 win at the Allianz Arena.
First-half goals from Serge Gnabry and Robert Lewandowski put the hosts 2-0 up before Emre Can cut the deficit with a 52nd-minute penalty.
Jamal Musiala got Bayern’s third goal seven minutes from the end for another routine win for his side.
Bayern were desperate to seal their only silverware of the season in front of a 75,000-strong home crowd to make up for their Champions League quarter-final shock exit to Villarreal.
Serge Gnabry put Bayern on their way after 15 minutes as he controlled the ball at the edge of the box with one touch and released a fierce volley past keeper Marwin Hitz who was left frozen on the spot.
The German put the ball in the net again at the half-hour mark but his effort was ruled offside.
Leagues top scorer Lewandowski did better in the 34th when Gnabry regained possession for his side and Mueller fed the Pole who slotted in through the legs of Hitz for his 33rd league goal.
Lewandowski remains on track to be the Bundesliga’s top scorer for the seventh time and the fifth time in a row.
Dortmund was given a way back into the game when they were awarded a penalty at the start of the second half when Marco Reus was felled by Joshua Kimmich and Emre Can made no mistakes from the spot to give Dortmund some hope of a comeback.
The visitors kept up the pressure but failed to score again despite efforts from Reus and Erling Haaland.
Instead, it was Bayern who scored through substitute Musiala to make sure of the title as Bayern club bosses and coach Julian Nagelsmann celebrated his first league crown.
The title is Julian Nagelsmann’s first as Bayern Munich coach and continues an era of dominance that has not been seen before in Germany.
No one had won more than three Bundesliga titles in a row before Bayern’s run.
Bayern wraps up the title with five games to spare having lost four times in the league this season, to Eintracht Frankfurt, FC Augsburg, Borussia Monchengladbach, and VfL Bochum, but they have been comfortably ahead of Dortmund at the top of the division all season.
The 2021-22 championship is Bayern’s 32nd title in total, with FC Nurnberg way back in second having won it on nine occasions.
Dortmund has won the league eight times.
