Nike end their Mason Greenwood deal after Manchester United player's arrest

Sports giants Nike have axed their sponsorship of Manchester United's Mason Greenwood.

Nike has ended the agreement with Greenwood following his arrest last week on suspicion of the rape and assault of a woman.

Greenwood has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

The England striker has been suspended by United until further notice and will not train with the team or take part in matches.

Now Nike have made it clear to Greenwood they will no longer be sponsoring him moving forward.

A Nike statement on the 20-year-old forward said: Mason Greenwood is no longer a Nike athlete.

Greenwood has been suspended from video games FIFA, eFootball and PES since the allegations were made against him.

An EA Sports spokesman said: Mason Greenwood has been removed from active squads in FIFA 22 and has also been suspended from appearing in FIFA Ultimate Team (FUT) packs and Ultimate Draft.

The striker was arrested on suspicion of rape and assault the Sunday before last (January 30th), following allegations made on social media, before being released on bail.

He was also further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and making threats to kill last Tuesday, February 1, with the Red Devils stating he would not play or return to training until further notice.

Following the second set of arrests, United reiterated their stance that Greenwood would play no part for the club amid the allegations.

Manchester United reiterates its strong condemnation of violence of any kind, the Red Devils said in a statement.

As previously communicated, Mason Greenwood will not train with, or play for, the club until further notice.
