Kieran Trippier will return to the Newcastle United squad following a successful operation on a broken bone in his foot, but the timing isn’t yet known for certain.
England international Kieran Trippier, who broke a bone in his foot against Aston Villa, has had successful surgery to repair the bone. The defender, who only joined the Magpies in the January window, will need rehab before he can join the squad again.
Trippier moved back to the Premier League from Atletico Madrid and cost Newcastle United £12 million. The defender had a super start with the Magpies and the 31-year-old also scored from a free-kick against Everton. According to the manager Eddie Howe, the operation went well.
However, now the recovery and the waiting starts. Howe hopes that Trippier will be back in the squad and playing matches before the end of the season, however, it all depends on how the recovery and rehabilitation go. And of course, there is the risk of trying to rush back.
Howe stated in his press conference that although the operation went well.
He said: That was good news, but I don’t know how long he’s going to be out.
We hope to have him back before the end of the season, but it’s obviously a significant injury, which is a big blow to us because he was performing so well.
We’re going to have to see how his early rehab goes.
Magpie fans will want Trippier back as soon as possible because they are in good form at the moment. Newcastle have won their last three league matches, which have lifted them out of the relegation zone. The club will miss his presence on the pitch. However, with the rehab ongoing, Trippier will still be around the training ground.
Howe is confident that they have enough cover whilst the experienced defender is out of action. Newcastle fans will hope this is true, and that their winning run continues to lift them further out of the danger zone. High flying West Ham United are next for the Magpies, Trippier’s experience on the field will definitely be missing.
However, rushing rehabilitation from injury is never good and Newcastle will be wary of bringing Trippier back too soon. Although the operation has been a success, time is needed to ensure a full recovery. But Magpie fans will be counting down the days until the defender can be match ready.
