Inter Milan’s disappointing run of form continued as they missed the chance to move level on points with Serie A leaders AC Milan at the top of the standings after being held to a 0-0 draw at relegation-threatened Genoa. The draw stretched the champions’ winless league run to four games.
Inter had the better opportunities to open the scoring in the first half, with Hakan Calhanoglu firing wide early on from a great position.
The Italian champions seemed to run out of ideas in the second half struggling to create dangerous openings. Stefano Sturaro almost snatched a famous win for Genoa late on.
Inter remain two points behind the leaders A.C Milan as they look to retain the Scudetto, having played one game less. Genoa, however, stay second bottom on 17 points from 27 games, five points from the safety zone after just one league win all season.
Inter coach Simone Inzaghi feels both title-chasing sides dropping points at this stage of the season is understandable.
It’s a strange thing, but in this moment of the season we are both starting to feel tired.”
We are trying to improve on a daily basis. We lack that spark that we were able to find before. We will return to winning ways soon but we must not lose our heads.
In another game, Serie A leaders AC Milan failed to bolster their chances of winning the league as they were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Udinese.
The solitary point keeps them in the first place in Serie A.
Udinese could not capitalize on a better start as the league leaders broke the deadlock in the 29th minute with their only meaningful attack of the opening period. Portugal’s Rafael Leao fired in his 8th goal of the season.
The visitors continued to press for an equalizer after the break and deservedly leveled through Destiny Udogie in the 66th minute.
Leao had Milan’s best chance to win it late on, but his lofted effort was cleared off the line much to the San Siro’s frustration.
Milan have now won only two of their last six league games, with their coach Stefano Pioli unhappy with the goal that denied his side a much-needed victory over Udinese, accusing Udogie of using his hand when bundling the equalizer home and questioning the validity of VAR.
In my opinion it is not a dubious goal, it is evident that he scored by using a hand. The referee did not see, but that why did the VAR not see it?
