Ousmane Dembele’s agent criticises Barcelona’s treatment of the winger

Ousmane Dembele’s contract renewal has been an exhausting saga for FC Barcelona’s offices. And while finally everything seemed to be decided and pitted against his continuity, a new development has shaken up the tranquillity.

The club were trying desperately to renew the French International, especially after Xavi mentioned that his plans revolved around players like Dembele. However, the young winger decided to play games with the board and refused to pen down a new deal in demand for a higher salary.

In their most recent proposal, the player’s environment communicated to the club that he would renew if assured a salary of €80 million inclusive of add-ons, agent commission and renewal bonuses.

Now, Moussa Sissoko, Dembele’s agent, has come out to explain their part of the story and explicitly states that it was not about the money.

“Everyone talks about money. But it’s not only money for us. Also the management with the player day-to-day is very important. How can he play right after getting covid without even training?”

Referring to Xavi’s decision to use the player immediately after his recovery from COVID, Sissoko points the finger at the manager for poor management. The situation is bizarre, for the disease did not seem to have any bearing on the 12 other players who recovered and returned to action immediately.

Dembele is now in the final phase of his contract with Barcelona. With just five months left on his deal, he is free to talk to other clubs. However, his recent rise in stocks at Barcelona could tempt him to stay. Needless to say, the arrival of Ferran Torres and the return of Ansu Fati could change his situation dramatically.
