Jurgen Klopp could ease Liverpool's struggles with 'unplayable' January signing

In what has been a whirlwind December for Liverpool, they have gone from keeping chase with Manchester City to falling nine points behind the pace, and it appears that their struggles are only just beginning.

Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Naby Keita are all heading off the the Africa Cup of Nations after Liverpool's heavyweight clash with Chelsea on January 2, but Jurgen Klopp is now running out of options within his squad to temporarily replace them.

Both Takumi Minamino and Divock Origi are sidelined through injury, and Roberto Firmino was absent from training on Thursday, as Liverpool confirmed that three more stars are out with Covid.

That therefore leaves it all up to Diogo Jota for now, but Klopp could ease his struggles but signing a star he once labelled as 'unplayable'.

Liverpool have gone from trusting their squad depth to a state of crisis, as the natural back-ups for their main stars are all currently unavailable, and as good as Jota may be, the 24-year-old can't do it all himself.

However, Klopp should finally trigger a deal for Jota's former Wolves teammate, and sign Adama Traore this January to reunite the pair and strengthen Liverpool's attack once more.

Liverpool were interested in signing Traore over the summer, but Wolves were difficult to negotiate with, and slapped a £50million price tag on the Spaniard, scaring away any potential suitors.

But they've made a huge error, and according to Football Insider, Wolves have slashed Traore's asking price by £32m, making the star available for just £18m this January, quite the backtrack since the summer.

Although Wolves have been in fine from this season, Traore hasn't been a huge part of their success, and Bruno Lage seems to have come to the conclusion that his side may not need the speedy winger within their ranks.

This may come as music to Klopp's ears, who remains a huge fan of the Spaniard after previously saying: "[Traore] is unplayable in moments, it’s unbelievable. What a player – it’s not only him but he’s so good."

These comments came in January 2020, and Klopp's admission of "It's not only him" came true as Liverpool signed Jota that summer, but it may be time to reunite the pair in order to give his side some respite over the near future.

Klopp has the backing of captain Jordan Henderson too, who also praised Traore: "[Traore] is very tough, strong, powerful, quick, he's difficult to play against."

It may be time to play with Traore as opposed to lining up against him, and with his burning pace Liverpool could be even more of a threat on the break.

Traore is only 25 too, so the signing is very much one for the future as well as now, and Liverpool should get the deal done while the asking price is so cheap.
