Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann has confirmed that left-back Alphonso Davies is set for a spell on the sidelines after he was diagnosed with a slight heart inflammation.
Davies missed his side's first game in 2022 - a 2-1 defeat to Gladbach - because of Covid-19, but he has since tested negative and was scheduled to return to training after a routine check-up from the Bayern medical officials.
Unfortunately, during those exams, an irregularity with Davies' heart was discovered and he will now be kept away from football while he undergoes treatment.
“Yesterday, during our follow-up examination that we do with every player that has had Covid-19, we detected signs of mild myocarditis, i.e. an inflammation of the heart muscle," Nagelsmann said.
“He has stopped training for now, so he won't be available to us for the next weeks.
“This myocarditis isn't too dramatic based on the ultrasound, but more simply signs of an inflammation. Nevertheless, it needs to heal and that will no doubt take some time.”

Davies is expected to undergo further tests in Munich to determine the best course of action.
As of yet, there is no mention of how long Davies will be sidelined. Englishman Omar Richards is the only other natural left-back in the squad, and he has now returned to training after his own spell out with Covid-19.
Manuel Neuer, Dayot Upamecano, Leroy Sane and Tanguy Nianzou are all back in the Bayern squad as well, but Naglesmann confirmed that Neuer is not yet ready to play 90 minutes.
Lucas Hernandez, a centre-back who is comfortable on the left, remains out with Covid-19.
