French referee Jeremie Pignard (C) shows a yellow card to Paris Saint-Germain's Spanish defender Sergio Ramos during the French L1 football match between FC Lorient and Paris Saint-Germain at the Yves Allainmat-Le Moustoir Stadium in Lorient, western France, on December 22, 2021.

Paris Saint-Germain will go into the winter break with a 13-point advantage at the top of Ligue 1 after narrowly avoiding a humiliating defeat at second-bottom Lorient.

Mauro Icardi's stoppage-time goal salvaged a 1-1 draw for PSG, who ended the game a man down due to Sergio Ramos being given his marching orders.

Thomas Moncondui's 40th-minute effort gave Lorient the lead and they appeared on track to secure a major upset until Icardi's late intervention.

PSG lead from second-place Nice and third-place Marseille by 13 points.

Nice beat Lens 2-1 while Marseille needed an even later injury-time goal than PSG to draw 1-1 at home with Reims.

It was another mostly uninspiring performance from PSG under coach Mauricio Pochettino.

Monconduit opened the scoring with a slightly-deflected strike that went into the top corner five minutes from the interval.

Pochettino brought on former Ramos for the second-half, with the Real Madrid defender receiving yellow cards in the 81st and 86th minutes to see red in just his second league match for PSG.

The visitors then poured forward in search of an equaliser and it duly arrived when right back Achraf Hakimi clipped over a cross from the right and Icardi expertly headed home in the first minute of added time.

Nice came from a goal down against Lens with second-half goals from Mario Lemina and Justin Kluivert snatching the points.

At the Stade Veledrome, Hugo Ekitike gave Reims a 75th-minute lead before Marseille playmaker Dimitri Payet was fouled and then scored a penalty in the eighth minute of stoppage time, after a long video review.

Canada striker Jonathan David netted the winner as defending champions Lille trailed twice before winning 3-2 at Bordeaux to move up to eighth place.

Winger Martin Terrier continued his fine form with a well-taken opener but fourth-place Rennes lost 2-1 at sixth-place Monaco, who scored through Wissam Ben Yedder's penalty and Kevin Volland's second-half goal.

Teji Savanier grabbed the first goal as Montpellier climbed to fifth with a 4-1 home win against midtable Angers.

Elsewhere, Saint-Etienne remained bottom after losing 1-0 at home to Nantes, Metz and Lyon drew 1-1 as did Troyes and Brest.

Clermont's home game against Strasbourg was called off because of fog.

The league resumes on January 7.
