PSG are reportedly willing to hand Barcelona sensation Gavi a bumper contract worth €6 million per season to lure him away from Camp Nou.

According to a report from El Nacional, Paris Saint-Germain are desperate to sign Barcelona midfield prodigy Gavi in the summer transfer window and are prepared to hand him a bumper contract to lure him to Parc des Princes.

Gavi came through the ranks at Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy after joining the club in 2015 from the Real Betis youth setup. Handed his first-team breakthrough this season by Ronald Koeman, the 17-year-old has not looked back, firmly establishing himself as a permanent fixture in the side for the Catalans.

Gavi scored his first goal for the club in the 3-2 weekend over Elche this past weekend and has featured in 21 matches across all competitions, chipping in with three assists. The teenage prodigy has also broken into the Spanish national team and was in fine nick during the UEFA Nations League finals in October.

Gavi’s exploits in the short period with the Barcelona first-team have not gone unnoticed as several top clubs across Europe have cast admiring glances towards the youngster. Indeed, there have been links to the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea already, with PSG also now joining the list of prospective suitors for the Spanish international.

While Les Parisiens have a packed midfield department, there are several players who are in their thirties. Ander Herrera, Idrissa Gueye, Georginio Wijnaldum are all entering the last phases of their careers, with two of the three – Herrera and Wijnaldum – being linked with exits from the club as well.

With Marco Verratti’s fitness battles continuing, PSG could do with refreshing their options in the middle of the park. There have been links to Manchester United contract rebel Paul Pogba while most recently, they were also credited with an interest in Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong. Now, it is his young teammate Gavi who has caught the fancy of the French league leaders.

Gavi’s current contract expires in eighteen months and is believed to have a release clause worth €50 million. Barcelona are working towards tying him down to a new contract that would increase his wage from €100,000 per year to somewhere in the region of €1.5-2 million a year.

However, PSG are willing to hand him a deal worth 60 times his current contract by giving him a €6 million per year contract. The release clause amount should not be a problem for the French capital club. But with Gavi happy at Barcelona and relishing playing under Xavi Hernandez, it remains to be seen if Les Parisiens can turn his head with their offer.
