Real Madrid have been handed a major boost in pursuit of Aurelien Tchouameni, who would prefer joining Los Blancos over Chelsea.

According to a report by Catalan outlet El Nacional, Real Madrid hold a distinct advantage in their pursuit of Aurelien Tchouameni. The AS Monaco midfielder would favour joining the Spanish giants ahead of Chelsea, who will offer €38 million to sign him in the January transfer window.

Aurelien Tchouameni is one of the best midfielders in Ligue 1, having taken his career to new heights since joining AS Monaco from Bordeaux in January 2020. Tipped to be among the finest players of his generation in the decade to come, the French international is already a mainstay for club and country.

To date, the 21-year-old has made 65 appearances for Monaco, chipping in with five goals and four assists in the process. The player’s progress has not gone unnoticed either, with the who’s who of European football currently tailing him. As things stand, Real Madrid and Chelsea are the most prominent of Tchouameni’s prospective suitors.

Tchouameni has been on Real Madrid’s radar for quite some time now, with Los Blancos setting their sights on midfielders across Europe. The intention is to facilitate a smoother transition to the next generation of first-choice midfield trio as Casemiro, Luka Modric, and Toni Kroos approach the end of their respective careers.

To that end, Tchouameni is the kind of player who would be the long-term successor for Casemiro, thereby making him a viable target for Real Madrid. On the other hand, Chelsea will need to bring someone in to succeed N’Golo Kante in due course.

The French midfielder has been a stalwart for the Blues but has been hampered by a few fitness issues in the past year. In addition, Saul Niguez has struggled to settle down since joining Chelsea in the summer and is unlikely to be signed permanently. So, it is hardly surprising that the Premier League heavyweights have already established contact to signed Tchouameni.

Recent reports have suggested that Chelsea are lining up a January move for the 21-year-old, with El Nacional providing further clarification on the development, claiming the west Londoners are ready to table a €38 million offer for him. However, Tchouameni prefers joining Real Madrid ahead of Chelsea.

While the Frenchman would not be opposed to the idea of making his way to Chelsea, the scales will tip in favour of Real Madrid if the Merengues submit their bid for him. So, it remains to be seen if Real Madrid can land Tchouameni anytime soon or if the Blues swoop him away instead.
