Romelu Lukaku a doubt against Brentford but Kante and Reece James return to training

Chelsea will return to Premier League action this weekend with several injury concerns after the international break.

Thomas Tuchel’s side are currently top of the table after seven games but face in-form Brentford sweating on a number of fitness issues.

“Romelu Lukaku is suffering from muscle fatigue, same as Eden Hazard,” he said.

“They’re not in best conditions to play. They’re leaving the national team camp due to these problems – I don’t know how long it will take.”

However, there is more positive news on both Kante and James after the pair returned to training at the Blues’ Cobham base.

The former is in contention after he missed both the defeat to Juventus and the win against Southampton after testing positive for Covid-19.

James, meanwhile, was unable to link up with England following an ankle problem but the right-back also joined Chelsea training on Tuesday.

Antonio Rudiger missed Germany’s World Cup qualifier against North Macedonia with back problems.

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has a word with Reece James during the half time break during the Emirates FA Cup Fifth Round match between Barnsley and Chelsea at Oakwell Stadium on February 11, 2021 in Barnsley, England.

But German coach Hansi Flick allayed any injury fears despite the defender also sitting out the final training session before that game.

He said: “Antonio Rudiger didn’t train as a precautionary measure, he received treatment and was doing well today.

“It was a precautionary measure. The final training was more a matter of regeneration anyway. So it was okay for him in the hotel.”

Lastly, Pulisic remains a doubt for this weekend’s clash against Brentford with the same ankle issue that kept him out of USA’s squad this week.
