Jurgen Klopp, manager of Liverpool FC pays tribute to footballer Mohamed Salah of Liverpool FC and Egypt the winner of the Laureus Sporting Inspiration Award during the Laureus World Sports Awards 2021 Virtual Award Ceremony.

Jurgen Klopp has no time for people who think Mohamed Salah is the best player in the world only after the last two gorgeous goals he scored against Manchester City and Watford.

“After two goals he scored now people think all of a sudden because of that he could be the best player in the world is a bit strange. He scored goals like this and performed for years at an incredibly high level,” Klopp pointed out in the pre-match interview.

When asked whether the talented Egyptian deserves the Ballon d’Or, Klopp mulled it over a bit.

“I have no idea how exactly you win the Ballon d’Or: if it’s about being in the Champions League final, scoring the most goals, then it could be slightly difficult but if it’s about performances over the last two years then he has a chance from my point of view,” Klopp said. “Does he get the recognition finally? Internally he always got it, externally I don’t know.”

Indeed, if your name isn’t Messi or Ronaldo, it’s hard to get chance with voters. Salah has performed at a world class level since he arrived at Liverpool. He breaks records for fun, and somehow this season he has impressed, even compared to his own incredibly high standards.

But let’s be honest: Argentina won the Copa America. We all know what’s going to happen here.
