Barcelona keen on signing 24-year-old La Liga attacker

Mikel Oyarzabal of Spain looks on during the UEFA Nations League Semi-Final match between the Italy and Spain at San Siro Stadium on October 6, 2021 in Milan, Italy.

Barcelona are once again in the hunt for Mikel Oyarzabal, and are reportedly lining up a move for the 24-year-old Real Sociedad attacker.

According to a report by Transfer Market Web, Mikel Oyarzabal is the subject of interest from Barcelona over a move in a future transfer window. In fact, the Catalan giants are already preparing a move for the 24-year-old Real Sociedad attacker, who is admired by the top decision makers at Camp Nou.

Mikel Oyarzabal has been with Real Sociedad since 2011, having joined their academy from Eibar when he was aged just 14. And just four years later, the Spaniard was up and running in the first-team setup while he was still very much in his teens. Since then, he has come leaps and bounds, becoming a mainstay in attack for the La Liga club.

At the same time, Oyarzabal has also established a foothold in the Spanish national side, raking in 20 appearances till date. And after a decent campaign at UEFA Euro 2020, the 24-year-old has kicked off 2021/22 on a strong note, with six goals and an assist in just eight La Liga outings. Such an impact has captured the attention of Barcelona once again.

Barcelona’s financial woes are seemingly having an adverse effect on their performances on the pitch as well. The Blaugrana, while having played a game less than all but three other La Liga clubs, are tottering at 9th on the table after winning just three of their opening seven games.

A horrendous start to the UEFA Champions League campaign has only piled on the pressure on Ronald Koeman, but the fact of the matter is their attacking unit severely lacks bite to make any sort of difference game in game out. Indeed, Memphis Depay and Ansu Fati appear to be the only consistent difference makers, at least till Sergio Aguero continues to be unavailable.

With Philippe Coutinho continuing to blow hot and cold, and Ousmane Dembele once again struggling with his fitness, it goes without saying that signing a wide attacker should be a priority for Barcelona, with the likes of Antony, Yeremi Pino and Raheem Sterling on their radar. And now, Oyarzabal has emerged as a viable target as well.

However, unlike some of their other targets, the 24-year-old Spanish international will not be an easy acquisition, as Real Sociedad are likely to charge a premium on one of their key players. That being said, it remains to be seen if Barcelona do get the means to snap up Oyarzabal, who is starting to quickly become a key target for the board.
