Buhari receives FIFA, CAF presidents, gets No. 10 jersey

President Muhammadu Buhari receives a presentation from FIFA President Mr Gianni Infantino during a courtesy visit in State House on September 16th, 2021 in Abuja, Nigeria.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino and his African counterpart, Dr Patrice Motsepe, paid a courtesy visit to the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Thursday.

During the visit to the State House, the Nigerian president was presented with a number 10 jersey and a football.

The No. 10 jersey is iconic in football and usually worn by skillful players who have a great impact on a team. IMG-20210917-054150-241

Among the famous footballers who wore Number 10 jerseys are Jay-Jay Okocha, Pele, Diego Maradona, Zinedine Zidane, Ronaldinho, and Lionel Messi, who currently plays for PSG in Ligue 1, France.

Also in attendance were the Sports Minister, Sunday Dare, and the President of Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick.

According to a statement by CAF, Motsepe will also be meeting with different stakeholders in Nigeria to discuss the advancement of football in Africa, in particular women’s football development.

Also in attendance is Ghana FA President Kurt Okraku and Mali FA President Mamoutou Toure.

The competition features women’s national teams from Nigeria, Mali, Cameroon, Ghana, Morocco, and South Africa featuring some of Africa’s top women footballers.
