Torino join Lazio and Atalanta in Brekalo race

Josip Brekalo of Wolfsburg reacts during the Bundesliga match between 1. FSV Mainz 05 and VfL Wolfsburg at Opel Arena on January 19, 2021 in Mainz, Germany.

Wolfsburg admit Josip Brekalo has asked to leave the club, with Lazio, Torino and Atalanta among those interested, but not at a fee of €15m.

The Croatia international has been heavily linked with a move to Serie A, although there is also potential for La Liga with Sevilla, Real Betis and Real Sociedad.

“The player has expressed a desire to change clubs,” confirmed Wolfsburg sporting director Marcel Schafer to Sportbuzzer.

Now German site Kicker claims that Torino are also in the running, after weeks of Lazio pursuit, while Atalanta consider the 23-year-old a possible transfer target too.

The asking price is believed to be €15m plus performance-related bonuses, a little high for both Lazio and Torino.

Brekalo plays primarily as a left-sided winger, but can also work on the right, making him an ideal addition for Maurizio Sarri’s 4-3-3 formation at the Stadio Olimpico.

On the other hand, both Atalanta and Torino would use him as a wing-back in their five-man midfields.
