Brilliant Borussia Dortmund have turned in an attacking masterclass, inspired inevitably by striker Erling Haaland, to beat Eintracht Frankfurt 5-2 in the Bundesliga.
Haaland set up Dortmund's opening two goals for Marco Reus and Thorgan Hazard on Saturday before adding the third himself before the break.
The Norwegian then assisted a third time for Giovanni Reyna before completing his own double after the restart.
A Felix Passlack own goal had briefly drawn Frankfurt level and Jens Petter Hauge's debut strike was a late consolation.
Yet Dortmund are only third in the table as Stuttgart beat promoted Greuther Fuerth 5-1 and Hoffenheim won 4-0 at Augsburg on the opening weekend of the 59th Bundesliga season.
Crowds of up to 50 per cent of capacity, with a maximum of 25,000, were allowed into stadiums with the current coronavirus rules and that number were thrilled by Dortmund's first Bundesliga win under new coach Marco Rose.
"We're happy of course that we have produced such a game," Reus told Sky. "I had goosebumps in the warm-up."
Reus hailed Haaland's three-assist and two-goal performance as "quite the package".
Hazard started the ball rolling by winning possession and feeding Haaland, who in turn found Reus to slot in his 100th Bundesliga goal for Dortmund.
Haaland 's double will again have Europe's football giants considering how to move for his services after he took his total to 62 goals in 61 Dortmund games.
Rose's side will now relish the chance of a tougher test against Bayern - winless under Julian Nagelsmann - in Tuesday's Super Cup.
Wataru Endo, Philipp Klement and Hamadi Al Ghaddioui, between a brace from defender Marc Oliver Kempf, got the goals for league leaders Stuttgart before Jamie Leweling's late consolation for Fuerth.
"The performance can give us confidence already," said Stuttgart coach Pellegrino Matarazzo. "But it's also clear that we just have the first match behind us."
