Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira is reportedly closing in on a move to Italian side Fiorentina after being informed he is not part of Mikel Arteta's plans.
The move is thought to be a loan move with the obligation to buy at the end.
Torreira's agent Pablo Bentancur has spoken about the midfielder's desire to return to Italy where he played for Serie A side Sampdoria.
However, the Uruguayan had expressed his intention to fight for his place in the Arsenal side but has now been frozen out by Arteta, according to football.london.
The 25-year-old has been training individually at Colney since arriving back in London last week and will travel to Italy tomorrow to complete the move.
Torreira joined the Gunners in 2018 for a fee of around £26m and instantly made himself popular among the Emirates faithful with his Man-of-the-Match performances against Tottenham and Liverpool.
However, the Uruguay international found game time limited after Unai Emery's departure midway through the 2019-20 campaign.
Torreira completed a loan spell at Atletico Madrid last season following Arteta's unwillingness to include him in the squad.
The midfielder made 26 appearances during his stint at the Wanda Metropolitano, winning LaLiga with Diego Simeone's side.
Despite impressing during his time with LaLiga champions, Torreira isn't expected to make his move to the Spanish capital a permanent one as Atletico cannot afford to buy him due to financial difficulties caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Torreira revealed that his struggles at Arsenal had left scars and he had to seek the help of a psychologist to mentally recover.
"A year ago I had been working with a psychologist in Spain because when in the second year at Arsenal I played very little," Torreira told the Metro.
"It was hard for me to really assimilate it because my life depends on football and when I don't play I have a very bad time, I am in a very bad mood and many things happen.
"That's why I started with him and he was giving me a hand with that topic."
Arsenal have had a less than desirable start to their Premier League campaign, slipping to two successive defeats.
A lacklustre display at home on Sunday saw them lose 2-0 to Chelsea as goals from Romelu Lukaku and Reece James secured the win for the visitors.
Arteta was left without Alexandre Lacazette, Thomas Partey and defender Gabriel Magalhaes through injury and Ben White, Willian and Alex Runarsson after positive Covid tests.
Arsenal will lose Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny in January when the duo head off to the Africa Cup of Nations.
