Tottenham Hotspur have accepted a bid for Toby Alderweireld from Qatari club Al-Duhail, according to Mike McGrath of the Telegraph. Spurs are looking to reshape their defence following the arrival of Nuno Espirito Santo and Fabio Paratici.

Al-Duhail will now need to agree personal terms with the 32-year-old defender before completing medicals ahead of a potential move to Qatar. The transfer will bring the curtain down on Alderweireld’s six-year-long association with Tottenham Hotspur. IMG-20210724-183209-964

Toby Alderweireld joined Tottenham Hotspurs from Atletico Madrid in 2015. The Belgian had an instant impact on the Spurs defence. Along with compatriot Jan Vertonghen, they formed one of the best defensive pairings in Tottenham history. The duo, though, failed in their bid to end Spurs’ trophy-less run after coming agonisingly close on several occasions. IMG-20210724-183223-275

Alderweireld is one of the several players likely to leave Tottenham this season. The defender had an approach from Antwerp turned down earlier in the summer. He will now join former Nottingham Forest manager Sabri Lamouchi at Al-Duhail, however.
