Fresh injury fears for Moyes ahead of Man Utd test

David Moyes, Manager of West Ham United is interviewed by Sky Sports prior to the Premier League match between West Ham United and Leeds United at London Stadium on March 08, 2021 in London, England.

David Moyes admits that one two two players are touch and go for this weekend's trip to Manchester United.

West Ham will already be without Jesse Lingard, who is unable to feature against his parent club - although Moyes could also be missing more important players due to minor injuries sustained in recent days.

"We've got a couple of slight doubts behind the scenes on a couple of players," he revealed. "They have picked up slight injuries which I'm hoping will be okay. I won't know until tomorrow [Saturday] to see how a couple of them are going.

"That's just something we're nursing behind the scenes a little bit. It might be that they're all okay, it might be that they're not okay - but that's where we are."

Meanwhile Moyes confirmed that he expects influential defender Angelo Ogbonna to be back in training again after the forthcoming internation break, which begins after next week's home fixture against Arsenal.

However he was unable to set an estimated return date for the 33-year-old, who has been sidelined since suffering a sprained ankle in West Ham's last visit to Old Trafford for the recent FA Cup fifth round tie.

"Angelo is doing great," said the manager. "He's back in the gym regularly, he's out of his boot and we're expecting him to start some running on the AlterG, which is the machine that takes a bit of your body weight off.

"He's coming along and I'm hoping that, maybe by the end of the international break, we might have him back on the grass in some capacity. There are signs that we're getting him back."

Meanwhile Moyes confirmed Arthur Masuaku, out of action since the end of last year is back in training - although he is similarly unavailable for this weekend's Old Trafford test.

"Arthur's trained two or three days this week with the U23s and trained with me for a couple of days now," he revealed. "So he's getting much closer to match fitness and all-round fitness generally."
