Edinson Cavani withdraws from Man Utd squad for Milan clash

Manchester United will take on Milan in the second leg of their Europa League last 16 tie without Edinson Cavani, after he was ruled out of the game through injury.

The 34-year-old has missed four of the Red Devils' last five matches in the Premier League, but he seemed to have recovered from his latest setback in time for their midweek trip to Italy.

However, during his press conference ahead of the Europa League Round of 16 second leg, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed that Cavani will not be travelling with the team as the forward 'didn't feel ready' after the final training session.

"Unfortunately, it looks like Edinson has got a bit of a reaction to training today and didn’t feel ready to travel," Solskjaer said.

Cavani's absence is a huge blow to Man Utd, as they still have plenty left to do in this delicately balanced tie with Milan. The Italian giants snatched a vital away goal in a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford, meaning the Red Devils must score in their trip to San Siro.

Their Uruguayan hitman has been a valuable source of goals since arriving on a free transfer at the start of the season, scoring six times in 18 Premier League appearances.

It remains to be seen whether Cavani will return to action for Sunday's FA Cup quarter-final clash with Leicester City, as concerns continue to grow over the fitness of the former PSG star.

Cavani is known as one of the most prolific strikers in recent history, and his reputation very much remains intact.

However, he has struggled to stay fit this season, often flittering in and out of the side for short periods of time. With his contract set to expire at the end of the campaign, there's every chance that Cavani could be heading out of the Old Trafford exit door after just one year - potentially into the welcoming arms of Argentinian giants Boca Juniors, who are known admirers.
